Grid lines help you orient yourself in the mass of data hidden in a list of points.

For example consider the two images below, one without grid lines and one with. It is clear that the lines help us identify relative and absolute point positions.

Of course it is not enough to have gridlines, you should be able to specify their layer, color and spacing. This software allows you to do this using the options dialog. Not that you also specify the length of the axes and the origin of the axes.

Pointor even suggested these parameters if it finds that the current settings would mean the the points visualised are way out of the specified grid.

If you activate the grid, or axes, then the grid (or axes) will be exported to the DXF file when you do that.
