Tutorial: Image positioning on objects

This tutorial is about how to create this object:




Use the File menu, Open Image File... item to bring in an image into PhotoToMesh. For this tutorial a long image is best, say twice as long as it is high. You will get the image import wizard (explained in the quick start) which allows you to change contrast etc. All you have to do is click on OK for the moment.


I've chosen this royalty free image from WikiPedia:




Depending on your last settings you'll get something like this (don't worry if it isn't, we're going to fix it!):




Now, in the Solid Shape combo box choose Flat Shape and then set the X samples to 200 and the Y samples to 200. Follow the A B C sequence shown below:




Now click on the Other Settings button and choose Fat-Arrow-Right from the combo box and then click on OK:





Depending on the other settings you'll get something like this:




You could leave it at that, but I'd like to show you how to change the position of the eye on the arrow.


Set the smoothing value (top right of main dialog) to something like 0.1 or 0.05.


Click on the Image Placement... button and set up the resulting dialog like this:




Click on OK and you'll probably get an effect something like this:





You can get rid of the rectangular edges by using the vignette options. Click on the Vignette Settings... button and then select Elliptical as shown below:




Play with the other sliders to see what they do. Click on the greyscale image to change the central position of the vignette. Then click on OK and voila!
